TIME ZONE - Italy is one hour ahead of Greenwich time and six hours ahead of USA Eastern Standard Time. Daylight saving time in Italy goes into effect each year usually from the first weekend of April to the last weekend of October.

HOLIDAYS - Offices and Shops are closed all Sundays in Italy. In major tourist areas especially during high season many shops are now open. Except in touristy areas and small towns shops close between 1:00PM and 4:00PM.

GAS STATIONS - Here are the opening hours of gas stations but in some cities it can be slightly different. On the "Autostrade" or toll-roads the gas stations are open around the clock. On the resto of the roads on weekends only 20% of gas stations are open. Plan ahead before you start a trip.

Emergency Medical Assistance
Tourists requiring urgent medical care should go to the nearest hospital emergency room (airports and many train stations also have medical teams and first aid facilities). Those with serious illnesses or allergies should always carry a special note from their physicians certifying in detail the treatments in progress or that may be necessary. Pharmacies (Farmacia), follow shop opening schedule from 8:30AM to 12:30PM and from 3:00PM to 7:30PM Monday to Saturday. Most Pharmacies are closed on weekends, in large cities they might be open 24/7. Night-time service is provided on a rotating basis. Business hours and night shifts are displayed outside of each pharmacy and opening time can be found in the local newpapers.
