Exceptional olive oils from Apulia
another discover by Gabriele in his travel to Italy
As we were traveling through the Apulia region last April we discovered another exceptional olive oil maker who is producing extra virgin single varietal oils with remarkable flavors and tastes. As you are probably aware, many restaurants in Italy and in some US cities are now providing olive oil lists in addition to wine and coffee lists. These are oils that would make the top ten list worldwide, absolutely premium quality oils!
I couldn't get these oils off my mind, and finally, after many telephone calls, I WAS able to order a few bottles.
The farm produces 4 single varietal extra virgin olive oils and a blended extra virgin that will dazzle you. Last night we had a horizontal tasting of these oils and everyone was amazed by their complexity and flavors. Before I forget, they are all organic and have been milled by the "cold extraction system."
The "pecholin" single varietal shows an intense peppery and fruity finish that will be excellent on pork, veal or lamb preparations. I also like it on grilled vegetables. $30 for a 750ml. bottle (+ shipping).
The "leccino" varietal has a finish that is almost sweet with a pleasing bitter and peppery taste. It would pair well with fresh-water fish or on salads. $30 for a 750ml. bottle (+ shipping).
The "nociara" varietal tastes like the two above combined.
The "cellino" also called "nardō" is a very well balanced oil with the right proportions of fruit, hot pepper and bitter almond. $30 for a 750ml. bottle (+ shipping).
