Marble Quarry Tour & Lardo di Colonnata
This new and exclusive experience will satisfy all kinds of travelers, from first-time visitors to return visitors to Italy. This excursion is focused both on the old trade of marble extraction by “cavatore,” as workers in the quarries are called, and their gastronomic traditions based on “lard” that is cured in sealed marble containers, a delicacy that has become very popular in Italy in the last few years. Very thin slices of lard served on warm slices of bread is a real gourmet treat.
The excursion includes a visit to a quarry, a visit to the small city of Colonnata, famous for the production of this lard and a generous “merenda del cavatore” (quarry worker’s lunch).
A visit to the Marble Museum will conclude a very interesting and satisfying day.
At the end of the excursion, return to the pier of Livorno.
