MULTISPORT VACATION TOUR
1 day walking; 1 day bicycling; 1 day horseback riding; 1 day white water rafting
This tour takes place on the out-of-the-beaten-path trails of Umbria.
The bicycle ride will be on the "plateau" of
COLFIORITO at 2000ft.a.s.l. on
the places where
ROMAN armies fought (and defeated)
HANNIBAL armies.
The horseback riding will be along the trails of Mount Subasio, a regional park,
where crusieders and San Francis of Assisi used to ride during the middle-ages.
From Spello to Collepino two of the most best preserved medieval villages in
Umbria, will be the itinerary of the day walk. Medium-high difficult, 4 hours hike.
Through the gorges of the
NERA River, unknown to the masses will be taking place
the rafting. A rare "gem" of place well known in Umbria for the delicious trouts
found in the river, and the black truffle growing in the area. Pasta al tartufo
is a delicacy dish you can taste ONLY while there.
Breathtaking places and gourmet food are the highlights of this tour.
Proposed itinerary
Day 1 - Sun. Arrival day
Arrival at Malvarina in the afternoon. Welcome drink, short briefing for the
following day. Dinner will follow.
Day 2 - Mon. Assisi Ride
After breakfast riders mount up. Follow bridle path past Malvarina fountain, go
through miles of olive groves, meet men collecting snails or hunting truffles,
continue through forests of pine and oak trees to the city of Assisi.
Return to Malvarina for lunch. Beautiful views of surrounding villages on the
way home. Afternoon wine and olive oil tasting at IL MOLINO DEL FATTORE.
Day 3 - Tue. "To Sassopiano Cross"
4 hour hike, difficulty level: medium-high. A more challenging walk, 1200 ft.
of vertical rise through woods and grassy paths. Upon return to Malvarina, cooking
class with Maria, relax and dinner at 8:30PM.
Day 4 - Wed. No sport day
In the morning travel to Deruta, a town known for its pottery since the Middle Ages.
Continue onto Torgiano to visit the famous Lungarotti Wine Museum and taste its wines.
From here travel to Perugia for a walking tour of the underground fortress and other
highlights of the city. This cosmopolitan city offers good shopping. Participants will
have time to shop and enjoy "La Dolce Vita" (the relaxed pleasures of the Italian lifestyle.)
Day 5 Thu. - Valnerina rafting or "canyoning" day
Morning departure for the Valnerina Valley a beautiful undiscovered area on the Eastern
part of Umbria. Valnerina is a rare gem of natural beauty on the rugged mount range of
Appenine Mountains, It is famous for truffles and its pristine fast running rivers and
woods. A the end of the excursion return to Malvarina for relax and dinner.
Day 6 - Fri. Colfiorito bike ride
After breakfast departure for a short ride to the "Alto piano di Colfiorito" a vast
high-plateau at an altitude of about 2,400 ft. above sea level that was the site of
a fierce battle between the Carthaginians, led by the legendary conductor Hannibal,
and the Roman legions, led by Cornelio Scipione. It is now reknown for its natural
beauty and delicious food products including cheeses, cured pork meat and lentils.
Return to Malvarina for another cooking class or free time at participant disposal.
Dinner as usual.
Day 7 - Sa. End of tour
After breakfast, departure for your next destination or return home.
