NONNA "VISPA'S" ANISE & WINE BISCOTTI
These biscotti recipe was our grand mother Filippa "Vispa" favored, she used to make
these biscotti only at Christmas time in the house where she was born with
the company of her brothers and sister.
Ingredients
• 3 cups + 1/4 of cup for the board flour
• 1 Scant cup sugar (more if you prefer a sweeter product)
• 1/2 cup olive oil
• 1/2 cup Marsala wine or other wine
• 1 tsp. soda
• 2 tsp. cream of tartar
• 2/ tbsp. anise seeds
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Sift the flour and leavening together.
Place in a large bowl.
Make a well in the center and add wine, olive oil, sugar, anise and vanilla.
Mix well until the dough is uniform.
Roll on a slightly floured board about 1/4 in. thick.
Cut with a zig-zags cutter into triangles. Shake sugar on each cookie.
Bake at 350 until brown.
When baked, cool and place in an air-tight container. If you want a sweeter cookie,
with an elegant look, dust with powdered sugar before serving.
These are delicious and especially good dipped in caffelatte, milk or any sweet or dry
wine.
