Day 1 - Arrival in Catania
Arrival at Catania airport. Transfer to Scilio Wine Hotel on Mount Etna. The
Wine Hotel and cellars date back to 1815 and are surrounded by the organically
cultivated vineyards, where for centuries the traditions of winemaking have been
handed down from generation to generation. Accommodation in the reserved rooms and
welcome aperitif. In the afternoon we will visit the cellar and will taste the best
Scilio’s wines. Dinner.
Day 2 - Cooking class and Taormina
Breakfast. In the morning we will have a very interesting cooking classes.
We will learn how to prepare some Sicilian dishes as: the pasta Cavatelli alla
Norma or the polpettine al limone (little meatloaf with lemon). For lunch we will
taste the dishes we have just prepared.
In the afternoon departure to Taormina’s, you will visit Greco-Roman amphitheatre
and the old centre. You will be free in Taormina to enjoy the chic boutiques, bustling
cafes and restaurants. Dinner on your own.
Day 3 - Mont Etna & its wines
Breakfast. Today is a day devoted to the best wineries on the mount Etna. In the
morning we will visit the Murgo winery. The Scammacca brothers will show us how
they produce their famous sparkling wines. Then we will have a rich tasting of
wines and extra virgin olive oil. The next stop will be the Benanti Winery, Mr. Benanti
will show us the vineyard describing the organic cultivation methods, the milestone and
the cellar, finally we will sample the best wines matched with local products. Dinner
and overnight stay.
Day 4 - Agrigento and Inzollia grape
Breakfast and leaving for Agrigento. We will visit the Feudo Principi di Butera.
We will taste six top wines such as: Nero d’Avola, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon,
Syrah, Chardonnay and Inzolia. Lunch on your own. In the afternoon we will visit
the Valley of the Temples. We will visit five temples, the wonderful Garden of
Kolymbetra and the Archaeological Museum. Leaving for the Baglio San Vincenzo near
Menfi. This luxury Baglio is surrounded by 12 hills. The Casa Vinicola Lanzara belongs
to the Baglio San Vincenzo, it is one of the most important wineries of the wine district
formed by Menfi, Trapani and Alcamo. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5 - Nero d'Avola & Grillo wines
Breakfast and departure for the Planeta winery. It was founded in 1995 on the
banks of Lake Arancio and is surrounded by vineyards and a native olive tree grove.
You can visit the presses, the steel tubs used for fermentation, and witness the
bottling process. Finally, you can visit barrel cellar, which consists of around 1,200 barrels.
We’ll taste five different wines as Merlot, Syrah and Burdese, paired with some cheeses
and breadsticks. After we’ll visit Feudo Arancio Winery, another estate in Sambuca di Sicilia,
surrounded by 280 hectares of agricultural land in a natural basin bordering Lake Arancio.
We will have a very good snack with the Grillo and the Nero D’Avola Feudo Arancio wines.
Return to the Baglio, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6 - Grape growing and oenology
Breakfast at the Baglio. Today we will have an interesting oenology course. The oenologist
Alessandro Giarraputo will show us the vineyards for the first lesson “Grape growing
and oenology”. At the end of the lesson we will taste the sparkling wine Costanza.
During the lunch we will have the second lesson “how to match food and wine”. We will
taste five of their best wines such as: Merlot, Syrah, Nero d’Avola, Elitre. Dinner.
Day 7 - Erice & almonds
Breakfast and departure to Erice to visit Fazio Winery. Here, Roberta Fazio will
let us taste the Nero D'Avola and the Catarratto. Lunch on your own. In the afternoon
we will visit Erice, a wonderful and mysterious medieval town, celebrated in ancient
times as the birthplace of Venus. Walking through the cobblestone streets of town. We’ll
stop at the world-famous pastry shop run by Maria Grammatico, where we’ll taste almond
sweets, genovesi, and nougat matched with Marsala wine. Dinner at Ristorante Elimo, with chef
Carmelo Tilotta. Overnight stay in Erice.
Day 8 - Palermo
After breakfast transfer to Palermo airport for departure.
